The concept was originally founded in 1978 and centered on bringing the unique flavor of deep dish pizza to California. The current Company was founded in 1991 when Paul Motenko and Jeremiah (“Jerry”) Hennessy purchased the predecessor company and slowly expanded the concept to include a wide variety of menu items including specialty salads, soups, pastas, sandwiches, entrees and desserts and introduced our critically acclaimed handcrafted beer. Now we have over 18 signature pizza creations, from tavern-cut to deep dish to made-to-order combinations.
At BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, we’ve been committed to brewing and serving award-winning, carefully crafted beers since 1996. Today, over 25 years and more than 220 awards later, we operate seven brewing operations around the country that supply our restaurants with 11 BJ’s signature handcrafted beers, plus an array of seasonal beers. We even have our own dedicated Research & Development team in Boulder, Colorado, where we experiment with over 60 beers every year to find just a few worthy of national release. BJ’s has been awarded more gold medals over the last five years than any other restaurant-brewer. We believe that unique, high-quality beer can make the world a better place. And that’s refreshing.

Boulder, Colorado is a great place to be if you love craft beer. Ingenuity and experimentation abound there, which is why our Boulder brewery acts as our experimental brewhouse. It’s where we explore the unknown to bring you the best beer possible. We’re constantly pushing the limits of beer making in order to craft you something that is worthy of your time. In fact, we test over 150 beers each year and only a select few are released nationally.
