Birdfish Brewing Co. is a regional craft brewery with two locations in the historic downtown of Columbiana, Ohio (a town of about 6,000 in just west of the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line) focusing on sourcing local ingredients to provide the freshest and most flavorful beer possible. 16 S. Main St. (The Up Top) is the small batch experimental brewery & taproom where you will find 5 beers on tap, live music, and a patio. 140 E. Park Ave. (The Down Low) is the production brewery & taproom where you will find 12 beers on tap, pinball, and other games. Both are dog-friendly and have food trucks.
In case you’re wondering, the Down Low and Up Top nicknames refer to the elevation change between the two breweries, which are only a short walk apart.
Josh Dunn, runs the brewery with three partners, cousin, Jared Channell, brother-in-law, Greg Snyder, and brother, Jon who joined them later.
The three been home brewing for about five years when they opened their first location, the Up Top, on Columbiana’s Main Street in late 2015 with a one barrel brewing system. A one barrel system brews 31 gallons at one time.
They opened their second location, the Down Low, in December 2018 on East Park Avenue. The building was a car dealership in a past life, but now it’s home to Birdfish’s 5,000-square-foot new spacious tasting room and production brewery with a seven-barrel (217 gallon) Portland Kettle Works system. It also will offer 12 taps, along with community tables, two televisions, electronic bowling machines and pinball machines.
Up Top, the original nanobrewery and taproom remains open, and now produces their experimental beers.
To bring the local community together to enjoy fresh craft beer and create unforgettable memories with the people we love and the people they love.
