Old Ox is a family owned and operated commercial brewery. Our family works together. Plays together. Celebrates together. Faces life’s obstacles together. We’ve founded our brewery on hard work and a commitment to the community. We are looking for ways to partner with the artists, farmers, restaurants, retailers, and other businesses that make Loudoun County a special place to live.
We chose Old Ox Road as the inspiration for our brewery. Old Ox is one of the oldest roads in Loudoun County and was originally built to connect the agricultural producers of Loudoun County to the markets in Fairfax County and beyond. It is this same sense of connection that we want to provide for our customers…whether they are here in our tasting room or enjoying a pint in their favorite restaurant or tavern.
We have 12,440 square feet. Of that, about 1700 sq. ft. is dedicated to the tasting room. Another 1700 sq. ft. is dedicated to office space. The remaining 9,040 is dedicated to beer production with a 30-barrel brewhouse. Just to give you some perspective, each batch we brew will produce 930 gallons of beer. That is enough for 9,920 12-oz. cans of beer or a little over 413 cases of beer per batch.
We took possession of our Ashburn space on November 1, 2013. A lengthy construction process took place between December 2013 and June 2014. Upon completion we immediately began brewing and opened our tasting room on June 26, 2014. We opened a tasting room in Middleburg on June 29, 2019.
APRIL 2022: Silver Branch Brewing Company of Silver Spring, Maryland and Old Ox Brewery of Ashburn, Virginia, have announced they will merge to create a new holding company called Silver Ox. Both companies will maintain independent production breweries, taprooms, and beer brands, and leaders say they don’t expect layoffs as a result of the merger.
On a basic level, the merger pairs one brewery with maxed-out-capacity (Silver Branch) and one that still has physical space to produce more beer (Old Ox). Silver Branch will gain access to space and equipment to increase its volume, while Old Ox says it expects to benefit from the taproom- and hospitality-focused expertise that Silver Branch’s leadership brings. Together, they hope to create a company that’s larger and has more diverse expertise than either does on its own.
